Help children in grades K-3 in the Pittsburgh area improve their reading skills and self-confidence as a volunteer literacy tutor.

I'M READY TO HELP

Young girl in classroom

ERAS Tutoring is an exciting program open to volunteers of all ages. You will help a child in grades K-3 develop reading skills and self-confidence. Lesson plans will be ready-made and tailored to your student's progress and learning needs, minimizing the prep work you need to do as a volunteer.

Current participating sites include Clairton City Schools, Catalyst Charter Academy, Woodland Hills, Environmental Charter School, and Pittsburgh Public Schools.

As an ERAS tutor you will:

  • Volunteer as a reading tutor for students in grades K-3.
  • Meet with a child twice weekly for 30 minutes during the school day or after school, depending on location. The total time commitment is 2-3 hours each week.
  • Complete a free four-hour training session.
  • Receive ongoing training and support.

A high school diploma is required for this volunteer opportunity. Volunteers must be at least 18 years of age, obtain FBI, Child Abuse, and PA State Police clearances, and complete mandated reporter training (paid for by Literacy Pittsburgh).
