Vibrant Index score increases

Aug 2, 2024Articles

The Vibrant Index, established in 2019 by Vibrant Pittsburgh, benchmarks an employer's diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) practices in comparison to best practices. This index helps employers identify their strengths and areas for continual improvement.

Literacy Pittsburgh has participated in this diagnostic for the past four years. This year, we achieved a score of 84.5, seven points higher than last year.

The Vibrant Index 5.0 was completed by 100 employers representing over 185,000 full-time employees (or 16% of the labor force) in the Pittsburgh region.  The index looks at nine pillars to evaluate an employer’s commitment to diversity and an inclusive and equitable workplace. Categories include written commitment and transparency, benefits and policies, employee networks, leadership, training and education, data and accountability, supplier diversity, community engagement, and talent recruitment, engagement and retention. Literacy Pittsburgh exceeded the average sample score in 6 out of the 9 pillars.

Our increased score is a reflection of our strategic plan and the implementation of our DEIA plan adopted by the board. The Vibrant Index is a valuable external measure of the policies and practices we have in place to support DEIA efforts. This framework helps us to identify elements that are working well and areas where we can improve to ensure that Literacy Pittsburgh is a vibrant workplace for all.
