Joni, a native of Syria, was born in the village of Maqabra, located within the Homs Governorate. He spent his early years enjoying a peaceful childhood in Wadi al-Nasara. At the age of 18, Joni’s life took a dramatic turn when he immigrated to the United States in 2019. His father, who had arrived in the country four years prior, had worked diligently to bring Joni, his mother, and his older brother to America.
Upon his arrival, Joni faced the challenge of learning a new language. Ironically, English had been one of his least favorite subjects during his school days in Syria. However, the realities of his new life motivated him to overcome this obstacle. Determined to improve his English skills, Joni immersed himself in the language through various resources, including Duolingo, foreign songs, and movies.
After working for three years in an Arabic restaurant, Joni realized that he needed to expand his language skills and seek a more fulfilling career. He left his job and secured employment at Aldi, where he has now been working for approximately two years. During his time at Aldi, Joni has been promoted to supervise workers on certain occasions.
Joni expresses a deep appreciation for his new life in America, where he enjoys the freedom to pursue his goals. He is currently studying to obtain American citizenship, eager to become a fully participating member of his adopted country, with the right to vote and contribute to society.
